Pearl of the Orient ARMY

HomeWelcome to the Official Site of the Pearl of the Orient ARMY!Apr 12, 2009
First thing that you might want to know is, what is the Pearl of the Orient ARMY?

The Pearl of the Orient ARMY is a group of Filipino Fansubbers that aim to promote the Philippine TV dramas/series internationally. This ARMY consists of several divisions, wherein each one is in-charge in the processing of subtitled videos of certain local loveteams/artists/genres. This group believes that your real-life responsibilities come as top priorities, so if you worry about not having the time, you don't need to worry. We do not implement strict deadlines. Instead, we encourage the members to do their tasks during their free time. Take this as a hobby, and a way to practice your English skills, listening and timing abilities, artistic talents, and at the same time, a way of sharing and spreading your love for your favorite loveteams/artists/shows.

This group started with one team, the AJREN Fansubbing Team, which is in charge of subtitling the shows of AJ Perez and Lauren Young. In its effort to expand, we are now recruiting members for the new teams:

-- PHR Subbing Squad (for the upcoming Precious Hearts Romance)
-- Koreanoyvela Fansub Troop (for the Asian Series remakes and alike genres)
-- BastaPinoy Fansub Crew (basta local dramas!)
Membership for the AJREN Fansubbing Team, is still open as well...

The first projects that will be done are the following:

Precious Hearts Romance Presents: Bud Brothers == (PHR Subbing Squad)
Kambal sa Uma (Twins on the Farm) == (Basta Pinoy Fansub Crew)
Only You (Pinoy Remake) == (Koreanoyvela Fansub Troop)
Your Song Presents: Boystown == (AJREN Fansubbing Team)
Your Song Presents: UnderAGE (on-going) == (AJREN Fansubbing Team)

Raw Providers provide the videos of the show in its original/raw format.

Main Translators are persons who translate the Tagalog language to an English transcription without losing the significance of cultural context in original dialogue. They have to ensure that names and place names are transcribed correctly. Translators don't need any software or program. The only thing that they need is the video and write the translations in a Plain text file(NOTEPAD)

Spot translators are persons who translate the specific part or spot that the main translators can't clearly understand or heard. They are the persons who help the main translators to finish the whole translation without living a blank. They also have to put notes* in some words that shouldn't be translated.

Timers are persons who syncs subtitles with audio, determining when subtitles should appear in video.Timers should use Aegisub because we want to ensure that the program you're using can provide good timed subtitles. If you know any other timing program that you think is good or you're more comfortable using it then you're free to use that too, but you must be able to fulfill our requirements with it.

Typesetters
are peoples who set the font/font colors and sizes for a series. This usually comes hand in hand with the Encoding process. They must use Aegisub.

Editors are persons who check raw transcriptions to ensure that the English translation is grammatically correct. The editors also check the appropriateness of the translated text. They are assigned to make sure that everything are correct with the subs, both misspellings/grammar mistakes and the timing of the lines. They may change it if they find anything incorrect. Editors must have a timing ability, so that they could redo the wrongly timed subs. They must be able to fix it. It is very important that they look through the whole video together with the subtitles, and save their work in *** format.

Encoders/QCs are combined positions. They are the persons who burn or hardsub subtitles to video and determines the video quality. Furthermore, they are the persons who check the overall quality of a video including subtitles, potential timing errors, typos, and audio quality.

These positions will be filled once the target number of members for the team is achieved....
